Yes this is a common problem when people get NDIS plans, then dont know who provides what service in the chain. There are Local Area Coordinators (LAC's) NDIA, Plan Managers, Support Coordinators/Psychosocial Recovery Coaches and then Providers who deliver services to help you. We hope this helps:
Gain and Increase Funding:
You work with a Local Area Coordinator, who is an NDIA appointed representative to liaise with the NDIA for funding. Everybody needs to engage with a LAC to gain access and manage funding assessments with the NDIA.
Manage Funding and Select Providers:
You have a choice to self manage your plan. Sometimes this is hard to keep track of your funding and coordinating services by yourself without having the knowledge from the NDIS sector. You'll have to manage and pay providers on time and track your spending so as not to run out of funds before the end of your plan date to pay all of your providers.
Coordinate Services and Help Manage Funding:
(e.g. Grace Professional, Future Focus, Stellar Rose Services)
Support Coordinators/Psychosocial Recovery Coaches - (independent service) engage a support coordinator (if you have funding for one, it is normally stated in your plan if you do), an independent person who specialises in knowing all of the different services offered by NDIS providers and can make connections for you as they understand your goals and your allocated funding and where you want to spend it to help you live a full life.
Pay Providers and Manage Funding:
(e.g. Plan Partners, NDSP, Thrive)
A Plan Manager (like an accountant who specialises in NDIA funding) helps you manage the funds in your plan and pay providers on your behalf. They'll keep an eye on things for you and make sure that providers are charging you correctly for things that you have funding for in your plan.
Providers:
We are an NDIS provider (waiting for registration) but provide services to NDIS participants. There are many different providers who have built services to assist you to live a full life. Some are NDIS Registered and other are not NDIS Registered. You can still use non registered providers, as long as your plan is not plan managed by the NDIA, but are self managed or use a Plan Manager (that is not NDIA).
